I need to work hard on developing my soft-skills to be competitive.

Image
I have a good commitment to my work and to getting what I want and need. But a Lack of communication and soft skills tumor is causing pain in my academic and career development. In addition to the skills gained from team projects, this week's reading and video will explain the importance of having soft skills in a team environment. As Alexander Lyon articulated in the video "we want to demonstrate we have a strong work ethic, internal drive, and dependability. other people should know they can count on us."(alexander Lyon,2021),  To be competitive and successful in my academic and career path, I need to be able to present myself with good technical and soft skills that will lead to high career opportunities. " interacting with other people. Specifically, today’s job market favors those who have the skills to be good team players." (Powell,2017). Based on what I have learned from all my classes in my first ...

Improving human-centered design of digital services and products to better serve society

Image
To solve the problems, manufacturing or service providers must put the needs and interests of society or consumers at the center. What I learned from this week's discussion topics, readings, and videos is how important human-centered design is to both the organization and the customer community. As it is focused on their needs, it attracts customers and makes the organization profitable, and satisfies the needs of the users.          Wolske wrote in his book  " Human-centered design has served as an essential transition point from previous user-centered approaches to design in helping the information science profession move towards a person-centering of sociotechnical design, implementation, and use. " (Wolske,2020 Dimistifying technology). To make this transition a reality, we need to focus and make efforts to deve...

how do I own it ?

Owning your education  covers a very important chapter topic for students. Chapter 9 critical thinking explains how to think critically as a student and its benefit for short-term and long-term plan achievement. The student examples provided in the chapter and the explanation of how to evaluate your basic critical thinking will be a great tool for developing my skills. "Critical thinking supports many academic skills that you develop as a student—from solving problems in math to understanding historical facts to applying ethical principles. Here are just a few tasks you will be able to perform better if you can think critically" (Stone, 2014)     By being open-minded, and objective when analyzing information and using other critical thinking skills I will own my education better than before.                                           citation St...

What can the rest of the world learn from the digital inclusion experience in THE US?

Image
The distribution and use of digital technology vary widely around the world due to socioeconomic conditions that limit people's access to digital technology. The gap in the use of technology has prevented people with economic difficulties from taking advantage of the opportunity            what is digital inclusion?  Based on the demystifying technology by wolske "Digital Inclusion refers to the activities necessary to ensure that all individuals and communities, including the most disadvantaged, have access to and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This includes 5 elements:  1) affordable, robust broadband internet service;  2) Internet-enabled devices that meet the needs of the user;  3) access to digital literacy training;  4) quality technical support, and  5) applications and online content designed to enable and encourage self-sufficiency, partic...

Privacy and security threats posed by DATA collection

Image
The rapid development and deep integration of smart devices and internet in the society's daily life are proof of the great benefits they provide in terms of making work and life easier. As Wolske described in his book "The last half century has seen a rich exploration of various sociotechnical artifacts and systems for digital networking and internetworking. These tools have provided opportunities to address a range of individual and social issues and meet a range of individual and social needs. The commercialization of the Internet has further opened up amazing possibilities for community networking and the advancement of stronger citizens through community conversations and information sharing, education and ..."( Wolske, M, 2020 ).             The Internet of things with All the benefits it offers, it also poses a serious privacy and security threat to society. With the advancement of technology and digital tools, companies are ab...

universal design in technology

Image
To increase access to technology for all groups of people, inclusive design can help ameliorate the challenges many faces in using technology. To improve access to technology for all groups of people, inclusive design can help ameliorate the challenges many faces in using technology. Considering the high benefits to the larger society, all designers should work beyond the minimum legally expected to promote the inclusive use of technology products. (Teddi Doupe, 2018 ).        It is important to have a holistic design approach that meets the needs that are not included in the design and development processes of technology products. Inclusive Computational thinking brings together 21st-century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking with digital technologies to advance collective problem-solving. (Wolske, M 2020)        Whether we are looking to pursue a career in the...

Organizational skills and time management for effective study planning.

Image
Managing all resources, including time, is critical to the achievement of people's long-term and short-term goals. After reading this week's article, “Owning Your Learning” by Megan Stone, looking back on my past academic progress, I can see how my organizational skills affect the effectiveness of my study plan. As a healthcare worker and full-time student, poor use of time leads to problems with my health and relationships with people around me (family, friends, and colleagues). Developing good organizational skills, prioritizing each day's tasks, and setting deadlines to monitor progress are essential.         Having a well-balanced and planned day is just as important as acquiring skills and getting good grades in school. "Time is not limitless, and students need to learn how to manage it to have academic and career success."(stone,2014, Effective Planning). Developing and using effective study planning and organizational skills t...
